WB: Extraordinary Rendition (++)

After the way the Kerry campaign got disrupted so easily and cheaply, all this despite the allegedly record level of contributions to the Democratic side, I started thinking maybe the “payroll” Dems figured out there’s a lot more money to be made coming in a close second.
It makes me extremely reluctant to contribute to any national or state campaign ever again….

I’d like to think that they simply found her too slimey.

I can no longer understand why anyone can still have faith in the Dems … we are not a Democracy … we are some form of single party state ruled by ultra-wealthy elites who permit branches/factions of the same party to appear to compete against each other for the publics increasingly completely irrelevant vote … the myth of electoral choice is just that, a myth …
Where have the Dems been on the issues that really matter over the past five years … Iraq, the War on Terra, the Patriot Act I & II … consistently absent, unless soft-pedalling counts … people talk about Mugabe’s unjust one party African state and sham elections … well, at least he’s not a superpower bully with ready to use nukes …

The answer is in Billmon’s post on evolution. Ever heard Biden speak? He has the first half of the old country lawyer act down perfectly: act like a clueless, witless, naif until noboday takes you seriously and then go for the jugular.

Regarding Barton and Enron:
Barton is the same guy who’s harassing climatologists because they publish peer-reviewed papers that show our climate is warming (imagine!), ideas anathema to the oil industry. More here:

Like bcf above, I cannot bring myself to support the Democrats. They are consistently pathetic in their responses. Biden is one, but there are many, who are nearly indistinguishable from Republicans. They seem to be the only game in town. If change comes, it will most likely be powered by events and forces outside the political discourse (economic collapse, environmental disaster, defeat in Iraq, trouble elsewhere).

Howdy from Texas! I wanted to add a bit to “Bring Out Your Dead”:
It would actually make less sense politically-speaking for The Weasel (Joe Barton) to back going easy on Enron if he was representing suburban Houston as Billmon writes.
Barton, however, represents the Sixth District here in North Texas, about 4 hours from Houston.
The Sixth has been a home to polluters and reactionary conservative shit heels ever since Barton took over.
Like so many other places in Texas, however, the mentality of the Stubborn Dumbass Republican wins out politically because our state Democratic Party can barely afford to pay its operating costs, much less fuction as an effective statewide party.
Until the TDP is in a position to help those of us willing to do the work of fighting the local and state battles, the “push not pull” Republicans in Texas will continue to win out. They’re like that kid in the Far Side comic strip who is insistently pushing on the door that is clearly labeled “PULL”.

And the Enron weirdness continues. Hirko, of the broadband fiasco in Portland, Oregon appears to be off the hook.
HOUSTON (Reuters) – U.S. prosecutors’ failure to win convictions in the latest Enron Corp. criminal trial will force the government to rethink its strategy before taking on the disgraced energy company’s former chiefs, Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling, legal experts said on Thursday.

ENRON story
Sorry-forgot the link.

There is no such thing, really, as “the Democrats.” The Republicans are a well-organized top-down party. The Democrats are some guys who want to be president. Biden will never do anything that he thinks does not advance his goal of becoming president. He’s not alone. Clearly no Democratic senator saw any presidential benefit to questioning Hughes.
