Billmon’s on fire today! Reading the Orwell, I was struck by the resemblance between Newspeak and text-messaging shorthand.

Have the google-cache files been searched for those deleted files? If they want to delete I assume we want to preserve.

The files are still in the Google cache (follow link and click ‘Cached version’). As I have barely a clue what this whole story is about, I suggest does that do know save whatever is interesting now before Google deletes it. And the DKos site I have not yet really understood the construction of but if most of the disseminating is going on over there, I guess it would be helpful if someone mentioned it on a appropriate page.

don’t you expect that he is the procurer for Rove et al?
(Attitude of this admin. toward homosexuality reminds me of Wm. Burroughs comment on the attitude of military toward homosexuality. When Clinton came in & tried to push through acceptance & all hell broke loose, Allen Ginsberg asked him why the military was so opposed. His response was “Protective Coloration”.)

I’ll remind former Whiskey Bar flies that many, many of us were quoting Orwell while sitting there on our bar stools, sipping Brechtian beverages. This is not taking anything away from the Barkeep’s handful of “1984” quotes of recent days, but I thought it important to ask you regulars to remember. I think he sometimes took issue with us about it in those days.
I take it as a sign that he is (like so many of us) still percolating a lot in his time away from behind that bar, with all its dirty glasses, and all the hassle of managing the unruly, sometimes cantankerous clientele.
Ah. Human beings… who inspire poetry, madness, and hunker-down behaviors. What dreams may come…
