Many sightings of Billmon these days (over at patriotboy – the well known “French” site, over at Brad de Long – the “French communist”, and possibly in the Non-Marx thread (1/11, 12:46)).

Is it time to rejoice his return?

the header for this thread is (unintentionally) funny to me.
sort of like potty humor.
I feel like I should run through a field of sunflowers with in a gauzy dress and be grateful I don’t have crotch rot.
sorry, but advertising has ruined too many words and songs.
I can’t believe Dylan did that VS commercial and ruined that cd for me.

OMFG! Thanks beq!
I posted this over at LeSpeakeasy, but this seems like a good place too.
Please help me come up with a definition for a new word I just made up:
Disasterbate (also disasterbating)
Thanks in advance!

This seems to be a fairly safe thread for now.
Gosh! with all the flying billiard balls at “Billmon Bumper Sticker” and heated discussions this seemed like a good place to ask Jerome another question.
I noticed the other day that China is looking to buy Unocal. I find this interesting for a couple of reasons. First that China is now making big deals and this seems like a pretty big deal.
The second is conspiracy theory based, I have heard that Karzai from Afghanistan is an ex-Unocal employee, there have been lots of stories about the famed Afghan pipeline that Unocal is/was involved in.
My question to you sir, is this a major play on the world’s stage? If there are Unocal assets such as pipelines or whatnot, will they be transferred to Chinese ownership. If this is a serious deal, do you also think that the US will allow it to happen?
thanks

Guess this is the proper thread for this. There seems to be quite a buzz on the internet(s) about George Clooney and O’Reilly. Clooney seems to be one of those few celebrities with a spine. Well, this seems smart, because of this hopefully more people are going to watch and participate in the telethon.
Clooney, O’Reilly spar over tsunami telethon
I am wondering why CNN used a photo of O’Reilly and not of Clooney, the second one sure would have been nicer.

If you like some light-hearted mooning over George the kos diary is funny reading. Nice change to all those problems we read about all the time.
I love George Clooney

I wonder if Billmon will be reporting from Davos again this year?
How can we encourage him to write regularly for us again? You know he wants too.

in fact with an screen, mouse etc that will take it to 1000 euros, no? the mini mac

Posted by: remembereringgiap | Jan 12 2005 19:39 utc | 20

r’giap, I figured that to spec the Mac mini to something I’d want it’d be going on E1000, but without a screen. I think the assumption is that people will already have a screen. Anyway, it’s pretty. See the preeettty little toy. Mmmmm.

Wow, there is always something new to learn. I wasn’t aware that Naoh was a bigamist – he was also married to Jeanne d’Arc – he must have been really and I mean really old, at least a few thousand years!
A Nation of Faith and Religious Illiterates

Things are different in Europe, and not just in Sweden. The Dutch are four times less likely than Americans to believe in miracles, hell and biblical inerrancy. The euro does not trust in God. But here is the paradox: Although Americans are far more religious than Europeans, they know far less about religion.
In Europe, religious education is the rule from the elementary grades on. So Austrians, Norwegians and the Irish can tell you about the Seven Deadly Sins or the Five Pillars of Islam. But, according to a 1997 poll, only one out of three U.S. citizens is able to name the most basic of Christian texts, the four Gospels, and 12% think Noah’s wife was Joan of Arc. That paints a picture of a nation that believes God speaks in Scripture but that can’t be bothered to read what he has to say.

Now, I like this:
Globalization
Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?
Answer: Princess Diana’s death.
Question: How come?
Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend
crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car
with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk
on Scottish whisky, followed closely by Italian Paparazzi
on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor,
using Brazilian medicines.
This is sent to you by an American, using Bill Gates’s technology,
and you’re probably reading this on your computer,
that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled
by Bangladesh workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilianlongshoremen,
and trucked to you by Mexican illegals…..
That, my friends, is Globalization.
I add my own “AMEN” to that.

disasterbating, I think that is what Bush is doing in Iraq, but, it could also be spelled:
disasterbaiting, and I think the Iraqi resistance is doing this to Bush !

For those who like to have a moment of relaxation and a few smiles. After surfing through today’s news I came across this page. What a relieve. The pictures get better as you scroll down. And yes, I am a cat lover.
THE SILLY SLEEPING POSE OLYMPICS!

Posted by: Fran | Jan 16 2005 17:02 utc | 33

@Fran thanks! first good laugh this weekend, really. The “Upright Radiator Hugathon” kinda did me in. But why are my own cats so very conservative and button-down in their sleeping poses, I wonder? I never catch them in any Olympic poses 🙂
