“Communiqué Number 6”

Iraqi Resistance speech on videotape – December 13 2004
via Information Clearing House

… We have not crossed the oceans and seas to occupy Britain or the U.S. nor are we responsible for 9/11. These are only a few of the lies that these criminals present to cover their true plans for the control of the energy resources of the world, in face of a growing China and a strong unified  Europe. It is Ironic that the Iraqi’s are to bear the full face of this large and growing conflict on behalf of the rest of this sleeping world.

We thank all those, including those of Britain and the U.S., who took to the streets in protest against this war and against Globalism. We also thank France, Germany and other states for their position, which least to say are considered wise and balanced, til now.

Today, we call on you again.

We do not require arms or fighters, for we have plenty.

We ask you to form a world wide front against war and sanctions. A front that is governed by the wise and knowing. A front that will bring reform and order. New institutions that would replace the now corrupt.

Stop using the U.S. dollar, use the Euro or a basket of currencies. Reduce or halt your consumption of British and U.S. products. Put an end to Zionism before it ends the world. Educate those in doubt of the true nature of this conflict and do not believe their media for their casualties are far higher than they admit. …

Sounds rather un-fanatical to me. These guys have good propaganda experts, and they know how to put their case to make it palatable for the world public – outside the US, that is. Desperate dead-enders they don’t seem to be. Tired of getting killed, as Rumsfeld said? Not really. And their suggestion of an economic boykott of US products may be heard and followed.
Perhaps the most important question: Is it genuine?

the speaker has good english, but it is not his first language. he probably grew up and went to uni in the US (not the UK). also, the person who speaks knows how to talk to europeans. the guy speaks the language and understands the rhetoric of the educated classes here.
the music is just the right pick for dramatic underscoring. for more effect they should use a mozart requiem or misa solemnis next time, while showing executions of US soldiers or a C5 unloading coffins or wounded personnel.
they even come across as sincere, not only when compared to the US but in their own right. this is something the US just cant buy with all their money. to contrast, while the US have dorks like kimmit and thugs like sanchez, the guerilla have people who shoot and talk straight and who have the moral high ground and know it.
all in all a remarkably well made piece of propaganda for the first try. refreshingly simple, evidently home-made. my gues is that the next one will be even better. i can only say: bring ’em on !

2 things make me wonder though.
it indirectly conflates the global anti-Iraq war movement w/ car bombings. good for US pro-war faction.
it specifically asks not to send fighters or arms. bad for insurgent tactics and logistics, I would think. but then again, understandable for nationalist political strategy.
I don’t know, it just seems to leave out more than it says.

The video and text is going for the “western” societies, not the “Arab Street” (just like Bin Ladens latest). Asking for arms or fighters would be useless in that context.
Interesting is the use of economic reasoning explaining the reason for the war and in showing methods for westerners to help the resistance.
