Moon of Alabama Brecht quote
July 2, 2004
Rising Moon

All internal links on this site have now switched to www.MoonOfAlabama.org. Some more design elements from Billmons site have been added. Left to do for the rest of the day are the “About” page and a “Search” facility.

Many members of the Billmon community are discussing how to set up what kind of site over at the Whiskey Annex. I propose to use this site as the starting point of implementing something better suited. It´s running, it´s payed for and it “feels” familar to Billmons site.

There is no personal interest of mine to run this site, other than to discuss Billmons posts and current political/economic/philosophical issues. Authoring and moderation on this site will be shared.

Please leave your opinion on where to go from here and please suggest corrections and improvements for this site.

Thanks

Bernhard –
Thanks for your hard work.
It’s nice to be here.
Place seems familiar…
Since you changed names,
I had been unable to enter the site until just a few minutes ago.
I attribute this to my somewhat remote locale.
So this is what I think I’m seeing here.
Tell me if I’m wrong.
This is the place where we will do what we used to do at Billmon’s joint
(Blessings be upon it),
At least for the next month or so,
While the geeks at the Annex/speakeasy
Hammer out what the next iteration will look like.
But when you said,

I propose to use this site as the starting point of implementing something better suited.

I got confused.
Could you elaborate on what you meant by that?
Am I seeing the forest?
Sure wish we had a fresh Billmon post to gnaw on.
Think I’ll take a look around.
Venceremos.

Mabrouk ya Bernhard, you have worked well and quickly. I recall friends who always maintained that an ounce of Semtex was worth a ton of theory but perhaps it is not wise to repeat such remarks in these times.
They were right though!
😉

A starting point where you can change things, test things and at the same time have discussions about them. Do we really feature x, y, z? We could try many ideas on this site without having to program it starting from 0 What design would suit best? Here we can implement a rough design within one day, take it public to the community for another day and switch back to this design when needed.

Now that I look at it, there’s something bothering me.
(Channeling Columbo?)
To my poor eyes
There’s no clear indication where
One post ends and
______________________________________________
Another begins.
By which I mean to say,
Of course there is.
It just isn’t sufficiently obvious
That a simple soul such as myself
Could easily trip over it.
Just thinking out loud.</columbo>

Nosing around the construction projects. This feels like home.

Thanks again.

Way cool work, Bernard!!!
While adding my personal info, the new! improved! HTML tags appeared — I’ve always wondered how to do that strikeout thingy.
I’d like to offer some intelligent comments — but my stomach is complaining, so getting some lunch is the next order of business.

Bernhard:
I like the new site. It seems easy to handle – this is important for me, as I am a user and pretty IT illiterate. It also looks nice.

The latest fiddlings have rendered the lead story unreadable.
I know this is a work in progress.
If you’re in the middle of something, I apologize for my impatience.
But I thought you’d like to know.

Hallo Bernhard:
I have a wish. When the site startet, you could see who just commented from each thread. Now you have to return to the main page again. I appreciated to see who just commented and then change to that thread directly with out going through the main page. Could that be done again?
Otherwise it looks and works better with each day.

@Fran
Could that be done again?
I´ll try to get it done today.
@sasando
I was working on some templates. Is there still a problem? I can´t find it right now. Could you describe it?

Posted by: Bernhard | Jul 3 2004 8:14 utc | 15

@ Bernhard –
Now things are good.
To describe the earlier situation –
The gray main text background seemed to want to start in the upper left corner, but there was a blue section with black letters on top, and the peach boxes with “Recent Posts” and “Categories” below. (I think.) This rendered the text invisible. Once those had run their courses, the blue disappeared from the left, the gray background became visible, and with it the text I was trying to read. There was also black-on-blue text in the upper right – the Brecht lyrics. This wasn’t a big problem. You have already addressed all these issues.
I hope this is of some value. Feel free to delete this once you have read it.

@Bernhard
I just tried to post a comment for dan and received the following message:
Your comment has not been posted because it appears to contain questionable content. If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact the author of this weblog.
There are no bad words in the post – and I have been able to post a more frustrated one this morning – so I don’t know what this is about.

I just had another odd occurrence –
When I previewed the message I just posted on the Kerry picks Edwards thread,
My text came up black on a dark blue background.
I ended up profing my entry in the little white window I’m typing into now.
Well, I just hit the preview button, and was able to replicate the condition described above.
Science!

Posted by: sasando | Jul 6 2004 14:17 utc | 19

Guess I should’ve “profed” that last one, too.
That’d be, “proofed.”
