Billmon: Send in the Clowns

The Barkeeper on Donald Duck for Senator (nearly): “Send in the Clowns” – some virtual space here for your candidate.

My, but it is entertaining to watch a national political party implode in a spectacular fashion.

Their logic is almost impeccable for a change on this one: Find someone famous and wealthy fast.
I say almost because it really doesn’t matter what sort of Holywood fool, corporate legend, or sport hero they parade up for the purpose.
That senate race is a done deal.
No one is going to challange Obama. No one.
Thankfully, Kerry even had the wherewithal to choose Obama to give the keynote at the convention.
Obama is the republican slayer. He is their worst nightmare. He will be “killing them softly with his song…”
Enjoy it. I know I will.

I don’t get it.
Why doesn’t the Il. GOP just throw in the towel for this time around? Save everyone a lot of time, money, and bratwurst.
Here’s a candidate! Hugh Hefner – businessman, started the Playboy empire in Chicago…
Or, Richard Daley Sr., Democrat (in a Frank Rizzo kind of way), control freak, never met a ward leader he didn’t like, truly a machine man, dead…
Or, maybe Bobby Knight…shit…he’s from Indiana, but hey, it’s close. Right next door. Throwing chairs on the Senate floor and/or making a few pudgy lawmakers run a few laps would be good for laughs…
Lastly, George Wendt (Norm from Cheers) – everyone knows his name! Started his career at Second City in Chicago.
Nah. Give it up. Obama’s the guy there.

(By the way, this feels like sweet home, Alabama. Thanks!)

For all the shame and embarrassment I’ve had to endure since the Supremes
(In the words of Charlie Pierce) threw the constitution under a bus,
I can now (and again) proudly call myself a son of Illinois,
And ponder the proposition of actually being represented by 2 count’em 2
Kick-ass senators of whom I can hold my head high and proclaim,
These guys represent me.
I wish Paul Simon could still be around to see this.
He did properly knight Dick Durbin.
Would he have done less for Barack Obama?
PS would’ve been proud too.
I can’t believe that if Bushco really wanted him to,
That Jim Thompson wouldn’t debase himself one more time
For the little gipper.

Bush hoping for mass amnesia

Sasando, I’m with ya! The Rs in my part of downstate are v v quiet lately, and there are a lot of Obama signs in yards here.
Durbin and Obama! Definitely something to be proud of, IMO…

Never heard of this guy before, bit is it relevant?

Posted by: Cloned Poster | Jul 16 2004 5:58 utc | 9

As they say, Obama should stay away from small airplanes. I hope he has good security in place. What a world.
@ Cloned Poster:
It may not still be relevant but “The Project for the New American Century” (PNAC) is where the neocons came from. They are the ones who were fervently praying for a “Pearl Harbor type event” to jump start their agenda.

Well, this is OT, but we are talking about CLOWNS.
Anyone know what NEWT is up to?
Gingrich calls for ‘virtual public health service’

“Paper kills,” Gingrich told the House Government Reform Technology Subcommittee. “Paper prescriptions kill. Paper records kill. And if there’s a public health emergency, paper will kill a lot of people,” he said.
Gingrich said the nation needs to create “a virtual public health service” that ties together literally every health facility. In the case of a major nuclear event, he said, officials would need to mobilize every nursing home and long-term care facility as well as every veterinarian’s office, “because all the downtown hospitals will be gone.”

This would explain the pResidents war on the forests. Paper kills, paper comes from trees, we must kill trees.
About 4 years ago someone I once worked with told me how brilliant Newt was, I didn’t believe it then and now I’m left questioning the intelligence of the person said that.

Remember,
If all the health information is tied together in one database, it becomes child’s play for government investigators to get everyone’s most vital blackmail information and use it creatively. Maybe that’s what your friend meant by brilliant.
