WB: Flunking History
Billmon:
That's one of the reasons why I tend to regard McCain as the most dangerous man in America -- even more so than Cheney and Rumsfeld. Not because he isn't a "straight shooter" (...) but because when it comes to the cult of self-righteous American power, I think he's the straightest shooter in the bunch -- literally.

Speaking of history, look into McCain's own political history: he moved to Arizona, married into a wealthy, influential family who basically bought him the Republican nomination for representative in an overwhelmingly Republican voting district.
I even rooted for him a bit for giving Bush such a case of the jitters in the 1980 Republican primaries, but although he is clearly a bit different from many of his party mates, he is no better than any of them.
